Man Sought on Kidnap, Rape Charges

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a Laguna Beach man they say kidnapped his former girlfriend from a San Clemente parking lot and raped her at a La Jolla hotel.
Enrico Leonard Amato, 33, was being sought on a no-bail warrant after forcing his way into the 23-year-old woman’s car at a shopping center in the 600 block of Camino de los Mares about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies said. They said he tied her with strips of clothing and drove her to the La Jolla Radisson Court hotel.
She escaped and called police about 3:45 a.m. Monday after Amato fell asleep, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Amato fled on foot, Amormino said.
