KARACHI, Pakistan — Police have arrested five Islamic militants, including a naval employee, in an alleged plot to kill President Pervez Musharraf in April, investigators said Monday.
The five recently arrested men are suspected of smuggling assault rifles and hand grenades to an April 27 ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the Liari Expressway near a naval base in Karachi. The alleged plot went awry when Musharraf showed up late.
Four of the men were arrested in the western Karachi suburb of Orangi Town. The group had recruited a man who worked for the fire brigade at a naval dockyard.
