Ventura County Heat Sets Records

Record heat was recorded Sunday in Ojai and Simi Valley, according to the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.
The mercury reached 104 in Simi Valley, trumping the old daytime record of 100 set in 1994. It was 103 in Ojai, topping 102 recorded the same day last year.
“It’s hot because we have a nice upper-level ridge and we do not have a marine layer out there on the coast that usually cools things off,” said Bonnie Bartling, a federal weather specialist.
Bartling said the area can expect more of the same today, but that it should cool off slightly by Tuesday.
