Mexico Jails Man Who Reported Car’s Pot Stash

A San Diego County man who claims a car he bought at a U.S. government auction came with 33 pounds of marijuana hidden inside has been charged with drug possession in Tijuana, Mexico, where mechanics discovered the stash.
Adrian Rodriguez, a 25-year-old social worker from Chula Vista, was arrested Tuesday after he and the mechanic called Tijuana police to alert them to the discovery. Prosecutors filed charges against him Thursday.
Rodriguez and his wife bought the 1991 Volkswagen Passat at an auction of government-seized vehicles in March. He said a strange noise was coming from the car, and he hoped to save some money by having a mechanic in Mexico check on it.
