Troops clashed with Muslim rebels who planned to bomb power pylons in the southern Philippines, killing at least 10 guerrillas, military officials said.
Soldiers, backed by two planes, were led by villagers to about 100 rebels of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front who had gathered near two pylons between the towns of Buluan and Datu Paglas in Maguindanao province Sunday, army Col. Agustin Dimaala said.
Dimaala said the guerrillas were about to plant homemade bombs at the base of the pylons when the soldiers attacked.
