Benefits Might Be Kept for Workers Gone to War

Ventura County government workers called to military duty would be allowed to keep their health insurance benefits under a policy proposed by two supervisors.
Fifteen county employees are on active duty, with the potential for another 67 to be called to serve in the Iraq war, officials said.
Supervisors Steve Bennett and Linda Parks are proposing that employees and their families be allowed to keep their county-sponsored plan while the employees are serving overseas.
The matter is expected to come to the Board of Supervisors for a vote in the next two weeks.
Current policy provides that insurance coverage continue for 30 days, said Barbara Journet, human resources director.
