The U.S. Senate on Friday unanimously confirmed Orange County Superior Court Judge James V. Selna to serve on the federal court for the Central District of California.
Selna, 58, was appointed in 1998 to Orange County Superior Court, where he heard business, environmental, antitrust and construction-defect cases. He also served on the General Civil Panel and on the North Panel at the North Justice Center, where he heard primarily criminal matters.
Selna earned an undergraduate degree in history from Stanford University in 1967. He received his law degree in 1970 from Stanford Law School.
Before his appointment to the bench, Selna was a partner with the law firm O’Melveny & Myers, specializing in antitrust, trade regulation and environmental matters.
The Central District includes courthouses in Los Angeles, Santa Ana and Riverside. Selna replaces retiring U.S. District Judge J. Stephen Letts in Los Angeles.
