Coaches or Teachers?

Why do coaches take all of the heat for graduation rates? Aren’t teachers the ones responsible for seeing their students graduate? I can’t remember the last time I heard a teacher take the blame for a turnover or busted route. Yet when a student-athlete doesn’t pass a math class, his coach is asked to respond.
The coaches are there to teach sports. Their performance should be measured on the field. The university as a whole, including the teachers, should be held accountable for graduation rates.
