Most Police Still Don’t Want Guns

From Times Wire Reports
More than three-quarters of British police officers don’t want to carry guns even though criminals are increasingly using weapons, according to a study.
A Police Federation survey of 13,000 officers found that 78% did not want to carry guns during everyday duties -- nearly the same as in a similar poll in 1995. Almost 60% said they would resign rather than accept an order to carry a firearm. Gun crime is infrequent in Britain, where handguns were banned in 1997.
