Explanation Sought for Secrecy Over Detainee

The Supreme Court asked the Bush administration to explain the secrecy surrounding the detention of an immigrant arrested after Sept. 11, 2001. The administration has refused to release the names and other details of hundreds of foreigners rounded up after the attacks.
One of them, known only as M.K.B., challenged his detention. His appeal has reached the Supreme Court. Lower courts sealed the legal filings and the records of how his case was handled, and the proceedings were secret. That is unconstitutional, Miami Public Defender Paul Rashkind argued in the case.
