Firestone to Seek Seat on County Board
Former Republican Assemblyman Brooks Firestone announced Tuesday that he has decided to seek a seat on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors representing the 3rd District, an area stretching from UC Santa Barbara to the Santa Ynez Valley.
Firestone, 67, a millionaire Santa Ynez Valley winemaker and political moderate, said he decided to run to try to mend a political feud between the northern and southern halves of the county. The 3rd District straddles the county’s dividing line at the Gaviota Pass, and often has been the swing vote on controversial issues.
Firestone is running for the seat held by Supervisor Gail Marshall, a liberal Democrat, who announced she is not running for reelection.
