Family of Woman Slain by Police File Lawsuit

Less than two weeks after a grand jury cleared a police officer of criminal wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a Vietnamese woman, the victim’s parents and sons have filed a civil lawsuit that seeks unspecified damages.
The estate of Cau Bich Tran, a 25-year-old immigrant killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest after waving a vegetable peeler in front of a police officer, filed the suit Tuesday in federal court against the city of San Jose, Officer Chad Marshall, former Police Chief William Lansdowne and Acting Chief Thomas Wheatley.
