Charges in Poisoning of 2 Children

SALEM, Mass. — A man who prosecutors said gave a baby boy and his 2-year-old sister arsenic-based weedkiller instead of water at a family cookout was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter in the boy’s death.
Constantine Pitsas, 75, was scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 20 on charges of involuntary manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Salem Superior Court.
A grand jury indictment Wednesday was issued in the death of 4-month-old Benjamin Glynn and injuries to 2-year-old Morgan Glynn.
During an Aug. 9 party at Pitsas’ home, Douglas and Sonja Glynn asked for water for their children. Pitsas allegedly poured what he said was water from a jug into the baby’s bottle and the toddler’s cup.
They became ill and were taken to a hospital, where it was found that they had ingested arsenic.
