Synagogues Bombed

Having lived in Turkey for a few years, and knowing the secular nature of the country, it is nothing short of tragic to me that mad extremists chose to bomb Jewish synagogues in Turkey this weekend (Nov. 16-17). What the extremists don’t realize is that they killed fellow Turks. Just one look at the photo in The Times reveals that the women are in the cultural hijab attire. Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, was vehemently secular and disdained the narrow interpretations of Islam by some of the religious clergy of his time. He must be turning in his grave at what just took place.
