Fox Names Replacement for Sacked U.N. Envoy

Mexico appointed a career diplomat as its envoy to the United Nations after the previous ambassador was fired for comments seen as anti-American.
President Vicente Fox named Enrique Berruga, an undersecretary in the Foreign Ministry, as Mexico’s new U.N. ambassador, the ministry said.
The previous ambassador, Adolfo Aguilar Zinser, was fired nearly two weeks ago for saying in a speech that the U.S. sought “a relationship of convenience and subordination” with Mexico. He said Washington regarded Mexico as its backyard.
