Search for Toxic Waste at Prison Intensifies

Military officials are stepping up efforts to locate radioactive materials believed to be buried at the former Castle Air Force Base, now home to a federal prison holding about 1,400 inmates.

Wireman told the Castle Restoration Advisory Board last month that officials believe low-level radioactive materials were buried near the former weapons storage area when the property was a Strategic Air Command training base.
