Personal Responsibility

For me, as a longtime HIV/AIDS activist, “Law on HIV Infection Little Used” (Sept. 10) only underlines the statement that no law can protect you from exposure to possible infection. If we make a law that could send someone to jail for life who knowingly exposes another human being, why would a person want to know that he was HIV-positive?
Personal responsibility is the only sure way to protect yourself. Unless you are absolutely sure of your partner’s HIV status, you must assume that everyone you have sex with is infected with HIV.
