Hudler Reaches Settlement in Case

SEATTLE — Rex Hudler has reached agreement with Missouri prosecutors on a resolution of his marijuana charges, sources said Sunday, and the Angels could announce as soon as today whether they will reinstate him as the team’s television analyst.

The settlement is believed to require Hudler to complete community service and receive counseling. If he satisfies the conditions of the deal, the charges would be stricken from his record. He is not expected to be fined by the court.

Hudler was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia two weeks ago, after security agents performed a random search of his luggage at the Kansas City airport.

The Angels then suspended Hudler, pending resolution of the charges.

Jim Wyrsch, the Kansas City attorney representing Hudler, declined to comment Sunday.

Angel spokesman Tim Mead said team executives plan to decide Hudler’s status upon receiving formal notification of the settlement, which is expected today.

Hudler, 43, a former major league infielder, joined the Angels’ broadcast team in 1999. The Angels last year extended his contract through 2005.
