SBC Wins OK for Michigan Long-Distance

SBC Communications Inc., the second-biggest U.S. local-telephone company, won permission from federal regulators to sell long-distance service in Michigan on its fourth attempt in seven years.
SBC has proven its local-phone network in Michigan is sufficiently open to competitors, the Federal Communications Commission said.
The decision clears the way for San Antonio-based SBC to win part of the $4.2-billion long-distance market in Michigan.
