Deadline for Waterfront Complex Plan Extended

The mall developer that wants to turn part of San Francisco’s waterfront into a $200-million recreation and retail complex has been given more time to fine-tune the proposal.
The San Francisco Port Commission voted 4-0 on Tuesday to extend until June 8 the deadline for Virginia-based Mills Corp. to submit its plans for Piers 27-31. Commissioners urged the company to use the extra time to resolve complaints from neighbors and rival merchants.
“I think the city will be well-served by this project,” Commissioner Sue Bierman said. “But some serious negotiations have to go on” between Mills and critics who say the project doesn’t deal with traffic congestion and doesn’t devote enough space to recreation.
