Can Williams Run a Comeback Route?

Now that Mike Williams is in limbo, may I suggest that he return to USC as a student?
He would honor himself, his parents and his university by staying in school. It would make a great statement if the university would provide him with an academic scholarship. He could participate in working out with the team and contribute to the football program, even though he could not suit up game day.
Because he plans to sit out the year if he is not allowed into the NFL, this allows him the benefit of a first-class fitness regimen as well as a world-class education.

As a lifelong USC football fan, I was heartsick when Mike Williams left school and declared for the draft. But even more, I was angry, and in spite of my respect for his football ability, I feel no sympathy for his present plight.
Does greed trump everything else these days? Loyalty, team, a great education ...
Surely, Williams could have showed his gratitude to the school, his teammates and his coaches by staying for one more season, winning the Heisman Trophy, and doubling his worth in the draft. To quote an ancient philosopher, “There is no greater calamity than lavish desires. There is no greater guilt than discontentment. And there is no greater disaster than greed.”

People have to understand that Mike Williams made a career decision. As much as I wanted him to stay at USC for one more season, I can’t blame him for the decision that he made because there is just too much for a person in his position to pass up by staying in school.
Athletes like him are a rare breed, and we were lucky to have him for the last two years.

What a refreshing pleasure to read about an upright and mature young man in “Udeze’s Weight Was Worth It” by Gary Klein [April 22]. Not only is Kenechi Udeze one of the best defensive linemen available, he appears to be one of the best people available.
Because Udeze will be leaving school early, he has promised his mother that he will eventually return to USC to earn his degree. He has shared that he is thankful for having attended USC and is blessed to be in his situation. Maurice Clarett, are you taking notes?
