* The city of San Diego sued more than two dozen energy suppliers and traders, including Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas & Electric Co. units, accusing them of manipulating natural gas prices in California during the 2000-01 energy crisis. The companies -- which also included Dynegy Inc., Reliant Energy Inc., Duke Energy Corp. and Williams Cos. -- have denied wrongdoing.
* The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved a previously announced settlement requiring Duke Energy Corp. to pay $207.5 million to resolve claims from the California energy crisis.
* America Online Inc., the nation’s biggest Internet service, cut 750 jobs, including 75 in California.
* Lowe’s Cos., the world’s No. 2 home-improvement chain, said that Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Tillman would retire Jan. 28. Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s said President Robert Niblock would succeed Tillman.
