Macedonian Leader Feared Dead in Crash

BITONJA, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski was missing and presumed dead in a plane crash Thursday in a remote area of southern Bosnia.
People lighted candles in front of Trajkovski’s office in the capital, Skopje, and messages from world leaders poured in.
Secretary of State Colin L. Powell called Trajkovski, 47, “a great friend” of the U.S. who helped put his ethnically divided nation on “a stable footing.”
Trajkovski’s party initially said he died in the crash south of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina’s capital. But the North Atlantic Treaty Organization said the wreckage was not found.
