California voters decide growth issues

California voters in a few cities addressed development and growth issues that were on the ballot last week.
Ojai voters approved the development and construction of senior-citizen rental housing. In Simi Valley, resident voters passed a managed-growth plan that will slash the annual number of building permits from 544 to 292 beginning in 2005 and extending through 2012. It will result in a 46% decrease in the amount of allowable building.
In Northern California, San Francisco voters defeated the sale of $200 million in bonds to create affordable housing.
Redwood City voters rejected a high-rise housing project slated for the shores of San Francisco Bay, while in Hercules a measure was approved to prevent large-scale development in Franklin Canyon.
Sutter County and Folsom voters passed growth advisory measures.
