Maurice J. Bresnahan Jr., 68; Ex-Admiral Headed Maritime Academy

Maurice J. Bresnahan Jr., 68, president of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy for the last six years, died Saturday of a brain tumor at his home in Cape Cod.
While head of the academy at Bourne, the retired rear admiral presided over an increase in the student population and oversaw more than $60 million in capital improvements.
Bresnahan received his commission from the Navy in 1959.
During his service, Bresnahan commanded two ships, was special assistant to the chief of naval operations at the Pentagon and was commander of the 7th Fleet Logistic Task Force Group in Yokohama, Japan.
He also commanded the Navy’s Surface Reserve Forces and Naval Surface Group 6, consisting of anti-submarine warfare frigates.
His military honors include the Distinguished Service Medal, three Legion of Merit awards and the Meritorious Service Medal.
