21 Injured by Quake on Southern Island

A strong earthquake struck southern Japan, injuring at least 21 people and shattering windows in swaying buildings, officials said.
The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8, was centered nine miles below the seabed just west of the city of Fukuoka on Kyushu island, the Central Meteorological Agency reported.
The injured included a woman who broke her shoulder while trying to stop a Buddhist altar from falling, officials said.
