Volcano Is All Smoke, No Lava, Scientist Says

A Vanuatu volcano pumping a huge plume of gas, steam and ash into the atmosphere is unlikely to explode in a devastating eruption, a volcanologist said.
Thousands of villagers who lived on Mt. Manaro’s jungle-covered slopes already have fled to camps on lower ground, and ships are ready to evacuate Ambae Island’s 10,000 inhabitants if the eruption intensifies.
