From Times Wire Reports
Two convicted killers tried unsuccessfully to escape the state’s death row prison in Mansfield by climbing out of a caged outdoor recreation area, officials said.
Richard Cooey, 37, and Maxwell White, 39, climbed a pile of snow in the recreation area at the Mansfield Correctional Institution and lifted the top off the cage, said Andrea Dean, spokeswoman for the corrections department.
Officials said neither inmate was able to scale the last of two razor wire fences before being caught by guards. The inmates suffered minor injuries.
