NAACP picks Theatre Award winners

The Mark Taper Forum’s “Topdog/Underdog,” the touring “Hairspray” and a revival of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” each won three of the NAACP Theatre Awards, presented Monday at Vision Theatre in Los Angeles.
Producing awards went to the Taper for “Topdog” and Long Beach Playhouse for “Hattie,” while writing awards went to Suzan-Lori Parks for “Topdog” and L. Trey Wilson for “Stage Directions.”
The Negro Ensemble Company received the Trailblazer Award, and Laurence Fishburne picked up the lifetime achievement award.
