Stanford Gets Payback in Easing Past Oregon

Third-ranked Stanford avenged its only conference loss, getting 13 points apiece from Candice Wiggins and Brooke Smith in a 76-45 victory Thursday night over Oregon at Palo Alto.

The Cardinal, 25-2 overall and 16-1 in the Pacific 10, won their 36th home conference game in a row. Andrea Bills had 13 points for Oregon (18-8, 11-6).

The Ducks handed Stanford its only conference loss on Dec. 29, with the Cardinal winning 16 in a row since.

No. 1 Louisiana State 90, Arkansas 64 -- Temeka Johnson scored a career-high 28 points to help the Tigers (26-1, 13-0 Southeastern Conference) clinch at least a share of the conference title at Fayetteville, Ark. Arkansas fell to 15-11, 3-10.

No. 2 Duke 95, Miami 61 -- Mistie Williams had 23 points to lead the Blue Devils (26-2, 12-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) past the Hurricanes (12-14, 4-9) at Durham, N.C. Tamara Jones had 26 points for Miami.

No. 4 Ohio State 57, Purdue 51 -- Jessica Davenport scored 21 points and played all 40 minutes for the fourth consecutive game to lead the Buckeyes (26-3, 13-2 Big Ten) past the Boilermakers (15-11, 8-7) at West Lafayette, Ind.

No. 5 Tennessee 78, Mississippi State 56 -- Shyra Ely had 27 points, and the Volunteers (22-4, 12-1 SEC) beat the Bulldogs (16-10, 5-8) at Knoxville, Tenn. Tan White had 19 points for the Bulldogs.

No. 8 North Carolina 89, Virginia 60 -- Ivory Latta had 19 points to help the Tar Heels (23-3, 11-2) complete a perfect home schedule (16-0).

No. 15 Minnesota 52, Indiana 35 -- Jamie Broback had 15 points to lead the Gophers (21-6, 11-4 Big Ten) past the Hoosiers (10-16, 3-12) at Bloomington, Ind.

No. 16 Temple 66, Massachusetts 63 -- Cynthia Jordan’s buzzer-beating three-point basket gave the Owls (23-3, 15-0 Atlantic 10) a victory over Massachusetts (13-13, 6-9) at Amherst, Mass.

No. 18 Georgia 63, Florida 38 -- The Bulldogs played without leading scorer Tasha Humphrey for undisclosed reasons, but Sherill Baker had 19 points to lead them (21-7, 9-4 SEC) past the Gators (14-12, 5-8) at Gainesville, Fla.

No. 19 North Carolina State 64, Wake Forest 61 -- Tiffany Stansbury scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half to help the Wolfpack (20-6, 9-4 ACC) hold off the Deamon Deacons (14-12, 3-10) at Winston-Salem, N.C.

No. 20 Vanderbilt 64, Alabama 53 -- Dee Davis scored 16 of her 23 points in the second half to lead the Volunteers (13-13, 4-9 SEC) past the Crimson Tide (20-6, 9-4) at Nashville.

Virginia Tech 87, No. 23 Maryland 79 -- Dawn Chriss and Kerri Gardin scored 19 points each to lead the Hokies (16-10, 5-8 ACC) past the Terrapins (18-8, 7-7) at College Park, Md.
