Pinochet Seeks Funds After Court OKs Bail

A Chilean court approved bail of $3,500 for former dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet, 89, who is being tried in connection with nine kidnappings and one homicide during his long rule.
Pinochet’s chief defense lawyer, Pablo Rodriguez, said he would have to ask “admirers of Gen. Pinochet” to pay the bail because the former ruler’s bank accounts had been frozen by another judge investigating allegations that Pinochet kept secret bank accounts in Washington.
