Re “A Less Traditional Take on Inaugural Festivities,” Jan. 14: $40 million-plus for inaugural festivities during a war that continues to take the lives of our soldiers? Even though the funds are privately raised, it is up to the president to cancel everything and have a simple swearing-in ceremony.
What a grand gesture it would be to direct the $40 million to something useful for our troops. President Bush, they are fighting in a country you sent them to for no reason, and now you are partying? Shame on you.
