‘Hairspray’ heads to Las Vegas
“Hairspray” has joined the list of Broadway shows planning to open a second permanent home in Las Vegas. The Tony-winning musical about Baltimore teenagers in 1962 will be trimmed to 90 minutes, with no intermission, for its production at Luxor Las Vegas, where the eventual schedule will include 10 performances a week.
Previews will begin in November, with an opening before the end of the year -- after the scheduled Las Vegas premiere of “Avenue Q” but prior to next year’s planned opening of a permanent “Phantom of the Opera.” The show’s original creative team will collaborate on the transplant.
