Comet show is a big hit

Re “Comet Show Leaves NASA Speechless,” July 5

Congratulations to NASA on its successful penetration of comet Tempel 1. We will undoubtedly learn much about the stuff comets are made of and what role they may have played in the formation and early evolution of Earth.

Of even more importance is the fact that we now know with certainty that we have the ability to intercept a renegade celestial body that might be on a collision course with our planet.

I think we will all sleep a little sounder now.
