Nike Profit Jumps 36% on U.S., Asian Demand

Nike Inc., the world’s biggest maker of athletic shoes, said third-quarter earnings rose 36%, spurred by demand for apparel and the Shox line of sneakers in the U.S. and Asia.
Net income rose to $273.4 million, or $1.01 a share, from $200.3 million, or 74 cents, a year earlier, the Beaverton, Ore.-based company said after regular U.S. trading ended. Sales jumped 14% to $3.31 billion.
Shares of Nike rose 39 cents to $86.83 on the NYSE.
