Pedestrian in Carpool Lane Is Struck, Killed

A 41-year-old man walking in the carpool lane of a road connecting two freeways died late Monday after being struck by a car, authorities said.
Kyle Joseph Kottel, 18, of Cypress was driving north onto the Santa Ana Freeway from the Costa Mesa Freeway when his car struck the man about 11 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, who was not identified pending notification of his relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kottel and his passenger were not injured.
