Seminoles Rally in Boston

Florida State gave Boston College a rude welcome to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

A.J. Nicholson intercepted two passes, scoring on a 19-yard return on the first play of the game, and Greg Carr caught two touchdown passes to help No. 8 Florida State beat No. 17 Boston College, 28-17, on Saturday night in Boston and spoil the Eagles’ ACC debut.

Nicholson’s interceptions sparked the Seminoles (3-0, 2-0) to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes before Boston College scored 17 unanswered points to take the lead. The Eagles (2-1, 0-1) nursed the lead until quarterback Quinton Porter left with an ankle injury and Florida State took advantage.

Drew Weatherford hit Carr on a six-yard slant across the middle of the end zone with 10:13 left in the fourth to give the Seminoles a 21-17 lead. Lorenzo Booker made up for a goal-line fumble by scoring from four yards out to make it 28-17.

No. 4 Virginia Tech 45, Ohio 0 -- Marcus Vick threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third for Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies turned three turnovers into touchdowns and turned the Bobcats away twice deep in Tech territory. Brooks Rossman missed a 36-yard field goal and an interception ended the other drive.

No. 16 Georgia Tech 28, Connecticut 13 -- With Reggie Ball in the hospital undergoing tests for an unknown illness, redshirt freshman Taylor Bennett threw a touchdown on his first college pass and backup tailback Tashard Choice scored the first two touchdowns of his career for Georgia Tech at home.

West Virginia 31, Maryland 19 -- Backup quarterback Pat White directed three fourth-quarter touchdown drives, and West Virginia, which had lost three straight at Maryland since 1997, ripped Maryland’s defense for 301 yards rushing.

Wake Forest 44, East Carolina 34 -- Chris Barclay ran for 210 yards and tied a Wake Forest record with four rushing touchdowns in Winston-Salem, N.C. Wake Forest had lost eight of nine games dating to last season, but avoided its first 0-3 start under fifth-year coach Jim Grobe.

Wisconsin 14, North Carolina 5 -- Brian Calhoun rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a road win against penalty-prone North Carolina, which finished with 12 penalties for 115 yards, including two when Wisconsin punted on its first possession.

North Carolina State 54, Eastern Kentucky 10 -- Toney Baker ran for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass for North Carolina State, which scored 31 points in the first quarter and ended its four-game home losing streak.

Duke 40, VMI 14 -- Justin Boyle ran for a career-high 113 yards and two touchdowns, Zack Asack threw for another score in his Duke debut and the Blue Devils won at home.
