Employer’s Convenient Stance on Immigration

How self-serving of Dov Charney of American Apparel Inc. to extol the benefits of open borders -- the benefits for him, that is (“Employer Is for Open U.S. Door,” Golden State, April 20).
He readily admits half the employees in his industry are illegal. Charney and his business should be raided and criminals like him arrested.
His industry gets all the benefits of cheap labor and the rest of the state watches towns and schools and hospitals deteriorate. And he is going to bus his illegals to rallies. The gall.

Michael Hiltzik applauds American Apparel Inc. for paying an average of $12 an hour and notes that the company, with its “well-deserved reputation as a progressive employer,” helps its employees enroll their families in public healthcare programs -- that is, healthcare at taxpayer expense.
This is a progressive employer? They may pay more than Wal-Mart in hourly wages, but in a previous era both would have been called robber barons.
