Prop. 89 opposition is a ‘favor’ to donors

Re “Sharing Quality Time With the Gov.,” column, Aug. 2
Thanks, Steve Lopez, for speaking to the governor on behalf of the 99% of us who aren’t campaign donors.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger claims that he’s never been influenced by a donation and that he doesn’t do favors for his donors. But his opposition to Proposition 89 [the “clean money” reform plan] is a huge favor to his campaign donors. The $22,300 thank-you notes are already flooding into Sacramento.
Nobody believes his flimsy premise that he’s opposed to the measly cost of “clean money” while fully supporting hundreds of times’ more spending in his various bond measures.
