BERLIN — Authorities in Germany and Lebanon arrested two more suspects Friday in connection with a failed attempt to blow up two German trains.
The man arrested in Germany, whose identity was not released, was held in the southern city of Konstanz on suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization, attempting to set off an explosion and multiple counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors said he was an associate of Youssef Mohamad Hajdib, one of two Lebanese men accused of planting the bombs July 31 at the Cologne station. The defective devices were found on trains in Koblenz and Dortmund.
Lebanon’s prosecutor general, Said Mirza, said police there had detained a 24-year-old man, whom he identified only as H.K.D., on suspicion of involvement in the plot.
Mirza said information received from Jihad Hamad, who turned himself in Thursday in Lebanon, led to the arrest.
Lebanese officials said Hamad had confessed and might have links to the Al Qaeda terrorist network.
“When he saw the pictures, he admitted that he planted the bomb,” Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmed Fatfat told Reuters Television.
“There is nothing clear now, but in his computer we found something that can be related to Al Qaeda,” he said.
