Oilers win in finals rematch

Jason Smith’s first goal of the season ended a second-period tie and lifted the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night in a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup finals.
Brad Winchester and Fernando Pisani also scored for the host Oilers, who lost Game 7 of the finals in Raleigh, N.C.
New Jersey 2, Montreal 1 -- Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal with 7.3 seconds left in overtime to give the Devils the win over the visiting Canadiens.
Washington 6, Ottawa 2 -- Chris Clark scored two goals and the host Capitals won their fourth in a row.
Dallas 3, Phoenix 0 -- Marty Turco made 25 saves for his second consecutive shutout as the Stars beat the visiting Coyotes.

Joe Nieuwendyk of the Florida Panthers retired after 20 seasons because of back problems.
