Teen enters plea in fatal fistfight

A Fresno middle school student accused of killing a 13-year-old classmate in a fistfight probably won’t face jail time after pleading no contest to a felony assault charge, the boy’s lawyer said.
An involuntary manslaughter charge was dropped against the 14-year-old boy, who was arrested after a Nov. 1 fight that left Michael Anthony Mobley unconscious. He later died of head trauma caused by blunt impact.
The 14-year-old faces the possibility of four years in juvenile custody, but his attorney, Ed Hunt, said he will probably get parole and house arrest because he has no criminal record.
Assistant Dist. Atty. Bob Ellis said he expects the boy to serve some time in custody.
A sentencing hearing was set for Jan. 8.
