An unarmed Air Force policeman whose videotaped shooting by a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was broadcast worldwide has filed suit, claiming the officer tried to kill him.
Senior Airman Elio Carrion alleged that deputies and supervisors deliberately kept ambulances from reaching him, exacerbating his injuries, according to the suit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in L.A.
Carrion was shot Jan. 29 at the end of a pursuit. In the videotape, surreptitiously shot by a bystander, Deputy Ivory John Webb Jr. is shown ordering Carrion to get up off the ground, then shooting him as he attempts to comply.
Webb has left the force and has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges of attempted voluntary manslaughter.
