A small plane carrying a flight instructor and his 18-year-old student crashed onto an expressway in suburban Chicago in an emergency landing, authorities said. No serious injuries were reported.
The plane, which crashed around 12:40 p.m. on the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway, didn’t hit any vehicles, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Ted Vernon.
The plane had just taken off from Schaumburg Regional Airport when it experienced engine trouble.
The instructor first tried to turn the plane around, but the engines went out and he tried to glide it down onto the highway, Vernon said.
