Last Medal Chance for Rahlves, Only One for Schlopy

Giant slalom is considered the purest form of racing among the five disciplines. Benjamin Raich of Austria is the World Cup leader this season. Hermann Maier won gold in 1998 at Nagano. Bode Miller won silver at Salt Lake City.
It’s the last medal chance for Daron Rahlves, who won bronze in the giant slalom at last year’s world championships.
American Erik Schlopy competes in his only Olympic event.
Another American, Ted Ligety, races for the first time since winning a gold medal in Tuesday’s combined.
