Elvis’ birthday is big in Memphis
Los Angeles has its annual Elvis Birthday Bash (to be held this year at the Henry Fonda Theatre on Sunday), but Memphis has Graceland, and the King’s hometown is gearing up for its favorite son’s 71st birthday Sunday with a weekend of events.
The activity also launches a yearlong celebration marking the 50th anniversary of Presley’s 1956 breakthrough. A Saturday concert by the Memphis Symphony will feature Presley music played from the original charts from his concert tours.
A “Beach Bash” dance party, a birthday proclamation ceremony at Graceland and a fan club presidents’ luncheon also are on the agenda. Information is available at www.elvis.com.
