Parliament to Consider Recalling the President

Taiwanese lawmakers decided today to hold an extraordinary session of parliament to consider a motion to recall embattled President Chen Shui-bian, party officials said.
Chen’s approval ratings have dropped to record lows amid accusations his son-in-law engaged in insider trading, and that the first lady accepted department store gift vouchers worth millions of Taiwanese dollars.
Analysts have said the recall motion is unlikely to win a needed two-thirds majority.
