Students’ public service is humbling, inspiring

Re “Healing Desert’s Wounds,” June 7
I happen to be retired and a frequent volunteer with the Bureau of Land Management. In January, I spent six days living and working with a Student Conservation Assn. crew north of Palm Springs. After college, many of these young people spend a year in public service before making decisions about jobs, graduate school or future public service. Their energy, commitment to public service and the sacrifices they have elected to make are humbling and inspiring. These young people give me hope for the future of our country.
