La Conchita Residents Sue Over Mudslide
Dozens of La Conchita residents have sued Ventura County and a private ranch company, marking the second legal attempt to hold both liable for a deadly landslide last year.
The lawsuit was filed Monday in Ventura County Superior Court on behalf of 57 residents and property owners. They are seeking damages for emotional distress, loss of property value and other unspecified damages.
The mudslide killed 10 people, destroyed 13 homes and damaged 23 others. Twenty-three lawsuits were filed last month on behalf of 39 residents who either lost homes, or family members of those who were killed or injured. It wasn’t known whether the lawsuits will be consolidated.
