CBS reups its favorite shows

CBS has taken the unusual step Monday of announcing renewals of the bulk of its prime-time series for next season, two months earlier than is normally the custom.

The announcement of full-season 2006-07 orders for 14 CBS prime-time shows -- representing nearly 13 hours of the 22 hours that make up prime time -- reflects CBS’ position as the most-watched network so far this season.

Most of the renewals are obvious, such as the three “CSI” crime shows. The series that were left under a cloud of uncertainty include freshman drama “Threshold” and the comedies “King of Queens,” “Out of Practice,” “Still Standing” and “Yes, Dear.”

Change of venue: After last weekend’s riot at the National Orange Show pavilion in San Bernardino, the Paid Dues hip-hop concert scheduled there for Saturday has been moved to the Shrine Expo Center in downtown L.A. The doors open at 4 p.m.

“Crash” returns: Following its Academy Award for best picture, “Crash” will be re-released to about 150 U.S. theaters this weekend, even though it’s already available on DVD, distributor Lionsgate said Tuesday.
